Do You Poo?

Do you poo?  How often…have you ever stopped and thought about how many meals on average you eat a day, and how many times you go number 2? Does it match up, or get even close?
I am speaking from experience, I used to eat three times a day and poop maybe 2 or 3 times a week. I was always uncomfortable after eating and didn’t know what to do. I was often constipated and had to push when I went to the bathroom. If this sounds like you, or someone you know, then I have a couple of suggestions for you.
First I would suggest to drink more water. I never used to think about how much water I was drinking, I would only drink when I was thirsty and would never give it another thought. I would, on a good day, drink maybe a large glass of water or tea. After I started looking into it and researching it, I found out that when you get thirsty, more than likely you are already dehydrated. We need to drink at least 8-8 oz water glasses a day. I still don’t do the 8 oz glasses of water but I make sure to carry around a large glass water bottle with me. I found that it is a lot easier to drink water if you have it with you all the time…the opposite of ‘out of sight, out of mind’. This has make a HUGE difference in the amount of water I drink.
Yes you pee more…but think of it this way. If you are going to the urinate more, you are flushing out more toxins from your body more as well. This also keeps your kidneys happy too.
Secondly I would suggest eating more fiber. Adding more fiber to my diet has also made a tremendous difference. Fiber helps to slow down the absorption of sugars for a more even energy and it helps act as a scrub brush in your intestines. Fiber also helps move everything along in the digestive tract and gives the poo some bulk so it doesn’t look like rabbit turds. The best sources of fiber are found naturally in vegetables and fruits. I started slowly by eating an apple and a banana each day and making sure I ate some sort of vegetable at night. Most of the time I ate a salad, grilled veggies or baked squash. I have since fell in love with vegetables because they have improved not only my digestion but my mood as well. (not that I was a bad mood person anyway). 
My third and final suggestion would be, when you have to go…go! When you have the urge to move your bowels, it is a sign that your body needs to get rid of whatever it did not use. If you find yourself on a situation where the restroom not readily available or you you have trouble moving your bowels in a public place, the delay can cause problems. The longer the poop sits in your large intestine the more water get extracted out of it, so by the time you are home it will be harder to move it because there is less water in it. This can potentially make it harder to come out thus making you push or even become constipated. So try not to delay, listen to your body and get to a comfortable place to relieve yourself as soon as possible.
So in review…drink more water, eat more fiber and go when you have to go! Happy pooping 🙂
